At this year's 22nd Stevie Awards, Karsan won its first award in the “Technology Innovation” category for its “Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK Navigates Real-Life Tunnel Traffic” project. Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK, equipped with Level 4 autonomous driving technology, continues to be the first and only full-size bus to carry passengers in real road conditions in Europe and America. The Autonomous e-ATAK, the first full-size bus to autonomously pass through a tunnel in urban public transport in Stavanger, Norway, can navigate smoothly in narrow spaces and complex traffic scenarios thanks to its advanced sensors, LiDAR, radar systems, and AI-based control infrastructure. This achievement was recognized with a Bronze Stevie Award as an important milestone combining safety and technology in autonomous public transportation.
The second award in the “Technology Innovation” category went to the “Autonomous Material Handling Vehicle” project. This innovative solution, which successfully completed 390 logistics tasks, was recognized for its added value in integrating advanced robot technology into the supply chain, delivering 32% operational efficiency and 40% cost savings.
Karsan was also awarded a Bronze Stevie in the “Diversity and Inclusion” category for its project “Next-Generation Strong Partnerships: The Key to Sustainable Growth Through Fair, Inclusive, and Diversity-Driven Procurement” This project highlighted practices such as providing suppliers with open and transparent application opportunities, integrating innovative solutions into business processes through Technology Days, and increasing global diversity. Karsan, a global brand in public transportation, has implemented autonomous transportation technology in public transport for the first time in Germany with the “albus” Project. Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK, the first autonomous public transport vehicle to receive testing approval from KBA (Kraftfahrt Bundesamt - Federal Motor Transport Authority), the official body responsible for road traffic regulations in Germany, has now started carrying registered passengers on two routes consisting of 11 stops. As part of this, Karsan, which is also involved in the albus project implemented in Germany, will begin trial operations in real traffic conditions in September with the country's first autonomous public transportation vehicle, Autonomous e-ATAK. Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK, the first autonomous public transportation vehicle to receive testing approval from Germany's official road traffic regulatory agency, KBA (Kraftfahrt Bundesamt - Federal Motor Transport Authority), will begin carrying registered passengers at an opening ceremony.
Test drives will continue until the end of the year!
The ceremony was attended by a wide range of participants, including German Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder, Hannover Regional President Steffen Krach, Hannover Regional Vice President for Transport Ulf-Birger Franz, ÜSTRA Board members Elke van Zadel and Denise Hain, and Burgdorf Mayor Armin Pollehn. Participants also took part in a symbolic first ride with Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK during the ceremony, experiencing the project firsthand. The project is being financed by the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) with a budget of approximately €3.7 million, in line with a decision by the German Federal Parliament. Karsan CEO Okan Baş, said they were proud to have achieved yet another milestone, adding, “Today, we are building the mobility of the future with 13 different autonomous projects in 12 countries. With each new operation, we not only gain experience, but also take pioneering steps that shape the public transportation vision of the world, especially Europe.”

The 8-meter Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK, developed with ADASTEC's Level 4 autonomous driving software and to be used in the albus project launched with the slogan “Steering wheel free, let the journey begin!”, will now serve in mixed traffic. The 100% electric, Level 4 autonomous vehicle offers a maximum speed of 40 km/h, a capacity of 22 seats, and a range of up to 300 kilometers. On the approximately 6-kilometer test route through Burgdorf, the bus will stop at 11 stops, pass through 10 traffic lights, and overcome urban challenges such as intersections and pedestrian crossings. albus route information will be shared weekly at uestra.de/albus, and the bus will operate as a supplement to the existing 906 route service. Trained security personnel are planned to be present on every trip during the trial period. The project will also be scientifically monitored, with passenger experiences to be collected via a short online survey. The trial operation is planned to run until the end of 2025.

Test runs have begun with one trip per hour!
Starting in September, services will run once per hour and will become even more frequent between Burgdorf Central Bus Terminal (ZOB) and Schwarzer-Herzog Junction. The initial route for the free trial runs will be ZOB - Gartenstraße - Vor dem Celler Tor - Kleiner Brückendamm - Schwarzer-Herzog Intersection, while the second route will include the Südstadt extension, Geibelstraße – Niedersachsenring – Berliner Ring – Immenser Landstraße – Immenser Straße stops. The trial runs, which will continue until the end of 2025, are planned to be extended based on demand.

In line with these new agreements covering the cities of Chitila and Focșani, a total of 42 10-meter e-ATA buses will be delivered. The delivery of the vehicles is planned to be completed in 2026. On the other hand, as part of the new agreement signed with the city of Focșani in the east of the country, 21 10-meter e-ATA will be put into service in 2026. Together with the previous deliveries, the total Karsan electric vehicle fleet in Focșani will increase to 47 units. The fact that the electric transformation process in both cities started with Karsan vehicles adds a special meaning to these projects.

Whether day or night, and in all weather conditions, the vehicle can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h in autonomous mode. A Significant Milestone
The Autonomous e-ATAK successfully passed operational and functional safety tests, earning full approval from RDW (Rijksdienst voor het Wegverkeer), one of Europe’s leading authorities. As a result, it has officially become Europe’s first RDW-approved full-size SAE Level-4 autonomous bus. Karsan’s Autonomous e-ATAK is equipped with numerous LiDAR sensors positioned at various points around the vehicle. Autonomous e-ATAK, the world's first serial production Level 4 public transport bus capable of autonomously moving on a predetermined route, is launching a vital project with RATP (Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens), one of the most significant public transport operators in Paris, France. As part of this cooperation, Karsan's 8-meter Autonomous e-ATAK vehicle will begin carrying passengers on the 4.5-kilometer Paris 393 bus route (Sucy-Bonneuil RER /Thiais-Carrefour de la Résistance) in September 2025. The bus will operate under real urban traffic conditions. These dynamic and static test processes will be in place until the end of August.
