Karsan Gears Up for Electric Conversion in Italy!
First 18 m Electric Buses of Bologna, Italy are from Karsan!
Offering high-tech mobility solutions with the vision of being "One Step Ahead in the Future of Mobility", Karsan speeds up in Italy. In this context, Karsan won the tender for 24 firm and 7 optional 18-meter electric buses for the public transportation system of Bologna, Italy, with its e-ATA model. In line with the tender, the company signed a contract with TPER Bologna, which pioneered the transformation of electric public transportation in Italy with its innovative perspective, for the purchase of a total of 31 units of 18-meter electric e-ATA buses. The delivery of the vehicles is planned for the last quarter of 2023. In addition to the purchase of buses, Karsan will also provide maintenance services for the vehicles. Emphasizing that Karsan has entered a highly productive period in its Italian organization, Karsan CEO Okan Baş said, "We are proud to add new ones to the successes we have achieved in Italy. After our e-JEST and e-ATAK sales, we are now expanding in the Italian market with e-ATA. In addition, with this tender we won, we also sold the first pantograph electric bus in the 18-meter class in Italy. At Karsan, we are targeting significant growth in Italy in the forthcoming period."
One of the leading companies in the Turkish automotive industry, Karsan continues its international expansion with its high-tech mobility solutions. In line with its targets, Karsan has signed another agreement that further strengthens its presence in Italy. In this context, the company won the tender for a total of 31 units of 18-meter electric buses for the public transportation systems of the city of Bologna in Italy with the e-ATA model. In line with the agreement, Karsan signed a contract with TPER Bologna for the purchase of a total of 31 units of 18 m electric e-ATA buses, 24 of which are firm and 7 of which are optional. The delivery of the vehicles is planned for the last quarter of next year. In addition to the purchase of buses, Karsan will also undertake the maintenance of the vehicles for 18 years.
A deal full of firsts!
Speaking on Karsan’s international activities, Karsan CEO Okan Baş emphasized the importance of the Italian market in particular. Explaining that the last tender they won has a special importance for them, Okan Baş said, “We are proud to add new ones to the successes we have achieved in Italy. This tender we won is full of firsts in many respects. With this tender, after our e-JEST and e-ATAK sales, we are now entering the Italian market with e-ATA. This agreement is also of particular importance as it is Karsan’s first 18-meter electric bus sale in Italy after Romania. In addition, with this last tender we won, we also sold the first pantograph electric bus in the 18-meter class in Italy. As Karsan, we are targeting a significant growth in Italy in the coming period for our electric vehicles.”

Emphasizing that Karsan’s position in Italy will be further strengthened with its market-specific structures, Okan Baş said, “We have serious targets for the Italian market in terms of electric vehicles. Next year, we will be serving all over Italy with our electric vehicles. Following our new agreement, we will increase our electric vehicle fleet in Italy, which has reached 75 units with other tenders we have signed previously, to 106 units by the end of next year. This transformation we have achieved in the Italian market will continue with other European countries.”

Having won the last tender, Karsan signed a contract worth 18.2 million euros for the purchase of electric buses, and the tender envisages the provision of electric buses as well as maintenance services for the vehicles. TPER Bologna, with whom Karsan signed the contract, is known as the largest passenger transportation company in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. TPER Bologna, the public company that operates public transportation in Bologna, is also playing an active role in the transformation of the city’s public transportation system.
