Karsan Achieves A Breakthrough in Europe

Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK
Started Transporting Passengers in Norway!

Offering high-tech mobility solutions with the vision of being "One Step Ahead in the Future of Mobility", Karsan continues to grow in the European markets. Level-4 automated electric bus Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK, developed jointly by Karsan and ADASTEC, started to serve for public transport in Stavanger, Norway thus became the first self-driving technology bus in Europe to carry passengers in the city. An official opening ceremony was held to announce the project referring to Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK initiating the transportations services, at the bus stop NedreStrandgate 89,in the city of Stavanger with the attendance of Norwegian Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård, Karsan CEO Okan Baş, ADASTEC CEO Ali UfukPeker, Norwegian ministry, several press members and senior executives of Karsan, ADASTEC, VY Buss, Kolumbusand Applied Autonomy companies who have contributed to bring the project to life. Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK carried its first passengers right after the ceremony from the bus stop at NedreStrandgate 89 to the Concert Hall.

Karsan CEO Okan Baş, who made a statement on the subject, said, “With our vision of always being one step ahead in the future of mobility, we are shaping the future of transportation with the innovative products we have developed as Karsan. Autonomous e-ATAK is now being employed to kick off the driverless public transportation service in Norway within this project, right after our driverless vehicle used in real traffic conditions at the campus of Michigan State University . This is a first in Europe. We are truly delighted that urban public transportation will be serviced for the first time in Europe with our self-driving electric bus Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK.”

Carrying the future technologies to the present and shaping the industry with its pioneering moves, Karsan continues to break new ground with its innovations in the electric public transportation market in Europe. Autonomous e-ATAK, with the Level 4 Autonomous technology that can move autonomously on a planned route, can execute the autonomous drive at a speed of 50 km/h, day or night, in all weather conditions. Autonomous e-ATAK, which performs driverless operations such as approaching the stops, managing the getting on & off processes, providing the management and administration at intersections and crossings and traffic lights, started to serve in Stavanger, Norway. The opening ceremony for official use was held in Stavanger with the participation of Norwegian Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård, Karsan CEO Okan Baş, ADASTEC CEO Ali UfukPeker, Norwegian ministry, several press members and senior executives of Karsan, ADASTEC, VY Buss, Kolumbusand Applied Autonomy companies who have contributed to bring the project to life.

Karsan and ADASTEC have achieved a breakthrough in Europe!
Emphasizing that Karsan has already started to develop future-proof technologies with its e-Volution vision, Karsan CEO Okan Baş said, “With our vision of always being one step ahead in the future of mobility, we are shaping the future of transportation with our innovative products we have developed as Karsan. Autonomous e-ATAK is now being employed to kick off the driverless public transportation service in Norway within this project, right after our driverless vehicle used in real traffic conditions at the campus of Michigan State University. ‘We will be at the forefront in the transportation of tomorrow’
Ali UfukPeker, CEO of ADASTEC, who is the technology partner of the self-driving Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK, which is a first in Europe, said, "We are very proud to see that the journey we have set out with the mission of enabling vehicles equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technologies in public transport and the development of smart cities is now actively in use. Norway is one of the countries where mobility is developing at the highest level. In this sense, we are excited to be a partner in this project that will accelerate our research and development efforts and further develop our flowride.ai SAE Level-4 Automated Driving Software Platform for commercial vehicles, not only on this route, but also throughout the country and globally. The use of this new Level 4 driverless bus in Norway today marks an important milestone in terms of our leading role in tomorrow's transport and our contribution to the mobility of the future.

Level 4 autonomous technology equipped with a special sensor
The Autonomous e-ATAK, which can detect its surroundings without the need for the driver, has many LiDAR sensors located in different parts of the vehicle. Furthermore, many innovative technologies such as advanced radar technology on the front, high-resolution image processing with RGB cameras, and extra perimeter security thanks to thermal cameras are among the features of Autonomous e-ATAK. Autonomous e-ATAK, which can offer all these technologies under Autonomous Level 4, can move autonomously on a planned route. The vehicle, which can drive autonomously at a speed of 50 km/h in all weather conditions, day or night, performs all the operations of a bus driver without a driver, such as approaching the stops on the route, managing the getting on and off processes, and providing the management and administration at intersections and crossings and traffic lights.
