VEHICLE MAINTENANCE

We recommend that you carefully read the recommendations given in headings to help you use your vehicle in the best possible way.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE DURING LIFE CYCLE

Paint Maintenance

The basic process to ensure that the paint is in good condition is to wash the vehicle. The frequency of washes depends on the conditions and environment in which your vehicle is used. For example, if you are using your vehicle in places with high air pollution or on salt sprinkled roads, it is recommended that you wash it frequently.

If high pressure water is used, ensure that the pressurized water spray is used at least 50 cm away from the body to avoid damage. Please note that the use of pressurized water will damage the body in the long run.

Do not wash your car if it has been parked for a long time on the sun or when the engine bonnet is hot, it may cause the paint varnish to be damaged.

Do not park under trees where possible; the resinous materials substances produced by many trees give the paint a matte appearance and increase the chance of accelerating the corrosion process.

Bird droppings must be washed immediately, especially if they have been stuck for a long time. Their acidity is harmful to the paint. Have painting maintenance done normally once a year, if your vehicle is in a woody or dusty environment, every six months.

Interior Maintenance

Do not use cleaners with acidic effect during cleaning. Do not spray on perfume etc. into or around the in-car ventilation diffusers. Depending on the quality of these chemicals, there is the possibility of damaging the glovebox or plastic parts.

Electrical System

Improper modifications and repairs made in the electrical system (on the electronic control units), and performing these regardless of the system characteristics can lead to malfunctions and even fire hazards.

Steering System:

The vehicle must be stationary and the engine must be switched off during any adjustment on the steering wheel. Any after-sales operation involving the steering system or steering column modifications must not be carried out at all (installation of anti-theft systems, etc.). This can affect the driving safety of the vehicle in a negative way. Your warranty may become void.

Heating and Ventilating Systems:

The air conditioning system is under direct manufacturer warranty. Be sure to have the air conditioner serviced and have the system checked before the air conditioning season starts.

The device must be switched on at low speed in the first run so that the compressor will not be damaged due to not being used for a long time.

In the winter months when you do not use the air conditioning system, if you run it for 10-15 minutes at least every 15 days, you will get high performance in the summer.

Because the temperature rises in the car as it stands longer in the sun, when the air conditioner is switched on, keeping the windows open for a short time allows the hot air to escape and improves the performance of the air conditioner. It should not be forgotten that dropping off/picking up passengers, the number of passengers, the opened-closed windows will affect the cooling performance.

Fuel

Fuel should be in EN 590 Euro diesel standard. Unapproved fuels such as biodiesel, marine diesel, or fuel additives should not be used. Use of fuel that is not in compliance with the standards will permanently damage the engine components, especially the injector and high pressure pump.

Battery

Incorrect installation of electrical and electronic equipment can cause serious damage to many systems of the vehicle. After purchasing your vehicle, if you wish to install additional accessories (such as alarm systems, sound system, mobile phone, car kit) that are constantly energized, please contact an authorized Karsan service. The trained staff here will not only advise you the most appropriate accessories from the accessory range, but will also check if the vehicle is adequately equipped with electrical charging, starter and other systems, and will determine if a higher capacity battery needs to be installed.
In addition, the condition of the battery charge in your vehicle must be checked at the beginning of winter against the risk of freezing of the electrolyte.

Windshield wiper

Never use the windshield wiper to clean snow and ice that accumulated on the windshield. Under these conditions, the wiper will be overdriven and cause the motor protection system to get activated and the wiping to stop for a few seconds. If the wipers do not work again after this, contact an authorized Karsan service.

Liquid Level Control

When topping up liquid levels, do not mix different types of liquids and do not use any liquid or antifreeze other than those recommended for the cooling system. Because these fluids may not be compatible with each other, they may cause damage to engine parts, especially the cooling system. Engine oil and coolant levels should be checked every 2,000 kilometers or at least once a month

DECREASING THE FUEL CONSUMPTION AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY VEHICLE USAGE

Vehicle Maintenance

It is necessary to carry out the control and setting procedures specified in the "periodic maintenance" schedule. The engines, gearbox, ventilation and drivetrain of vehicles that are not regularly maintained, do not operate at maximum efficiency. This causes the vehicle to consume more fuel and generate more CO2 emissions.

It can also cause serious permanent damage to engine.

You can safely deliver your vehicle to our specialist team by bringing it to the Karsan authorized services during the recommended maintenance periods. Remember that your timely serviced vehicle will be more reliable and valuable when you want to sell it.

Tires

Check the tire pressures regularly, in intervals shorter than 4 weeks. When the pressure is too low, the resistance will be high and fuel consumption and CO2 emission levels will increase. It will also cause irregular wear of the tires and damage to the level which can render the tires unusable. Equally, wheel alignment and balancing of all tires according to the mode of use and road conditions of the vehicle, is important in terms of tire life and driving safety.

Overload

Using the vehicle within convenient loading limits is important both for driving safety, vehicle wear and warranty. The loaded weight and accessories of the vehicle are influential on fuel consumption and stability.

Electrical devices

Use electrical devices only when necessary. Additional headlights, windscreen wipers and heater fan increase the fuel consumption (up to + 25% on urban roads) since they consume high energy.

Air conditioning

Air conditioning system increases fuel consumption (about 20% on average) and greatly affects the engine. If the outside temperature of the vehicle is appropriate, open the window for ventilation. However, if your vehicle is at high speed, we recommend you to use the air conditioning system instead of opening the window.

DPF Filter

It is best to use the vehicle at 2,000 rpm to 2,500 rpm to ensure that the vehicle is both fuel-efficient and that the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filte) filter is not filled.

Since DPF filter cleaning is not sufficient in vehicles used under 800 rpm;

It causes fuel particles to accumulate in the DPF filter,

The fan system to switch on regardless of the air and engine cooling temperatures,

The fan system to be continuously switched on and off at short time intervals,

The fuel to enter the engine oil and the engine oil performance to decrease.

In this case, in order for the DPF system to complete the manual regeneration process, user needs to;

  1. Reduce the vehicle's gear position,
  2. Not lower the motor speed to 2,500 rpm / 3,000 rpm,
  3. Use the vehicle in this manner until the fan system is deactivated.
  4. If the vehicle is in urban traffic, it will not be able to perform this operation during Stop / Start, so it will be sufficient to use the vehicle at 3,000 rpm when the traffic is normal and the vehicle travels normally.

This way of driving will help automatically clear the DPF filter.

The engine oil used must provide DPF filter specification. On the oil box, there should be the statement that says suitable for vehicles with DPF filter.

Starting the engine

Do not heat the engine at high or low speeds while your car is stationary. Under these conditions, the engine heats up much more slowly, increasing electricity consumption and emissions. For this reason, in terms of fuel consumption, it is advisable to start moving slowly in the shortly after starting the engine, and avoid high engine speeds until the engine heats up. In this way, the engine heats up faster.

Unnecessary maneuvers

Do not rev up the engine while waiting in the traffic lights or before stopping the engine. This type of use only leads to increased fuel consumption and environmental pollution.

Shifting

As soon as the traffic conditions are convenient, you can shift up. Using a lower gear for better performance increases fuel consumption. In the same way, unnecessary use of higher gear increases fuel consumption and emissions.

Maximum Speed

Fuel consumption increases significantly with speed. Avoid heavy braking and sudden accelerations that will cause fuel consumption and emissions to increase.

Acceleration

Increasing the engine speed by pressing the gas pedal suddenly, increases fuel consumption and emissions. Acceleration must be performed slowly and the maximum torque should not be exceeded.

Traffic and road conditions

The increase in the level of consumption depends on the more intense traffic conditions. For example, frequent usage of low gears in crowded traffic or too much traffic light in the city increases fuel consumption. In addition, curved roads and bad road grounds have a negative impact on consumption. If you need to stop in the traffic for a long time, stop the engine. The engine operating hours of the vehicles of a route with all heavy duty conditions such as long routes, long idling, heavy urban traffic, uphill - downhill driving, frequent stop and go due to the length of the route, were found to reach two to three times the normal engine operating hours when controlled by the diagnostic device. The engine of such vehicles has a working time equivalent to two to three times the distance of the distance that the vehicle has actually made.

For this reason, engine oil change must be done in early distances on vehicles with such heavy duty conditions.

Stopping the vehicle

After starting the engine and before stopping, run it at idle for 1 minute. During this time, do not press the gas pedal.
